Understanding Frankincense for Mind, Body, and Soul

August 21, 2023

Dear Reader,

Do you know the history of Frankincense, including the Frankincense Trail, the spiritual uses of Frankincense, and the present day use of Frankincense for our physical, emotional, and spiritual well being?

Frankincense is grown in various locations throughout the Middle East, most notably, present day Oman. It is made from the resin of a tree and is used in medicines, perfumes, and incense. Some historical evidence points to Frankincense as the first substance traded on a worldwide basis. The Frankincense Trail was part of an important civilization on the Arabian peninsula that brought GREAT WEALTH. Data shows its significance dating back to 1000 BC... imagine that!

It has been said that in the Arab world, Frankincense is burnt to ward off evil spirits. Men and women alike use "smudge-like" actions to cleanse their hair, clothes, and body of evil/negative spirits.

This "holy oil" of the Middle East and has been used anciently during ceremonies to improve communication (with the Creator). It was offered by Babylonians, Sumerians, Assyrians, and Persians to their gods.

Biblically, as one of the gifts carried by the Wise Men, Frankincense symbolized divinity. The Romans and Greeks valued it as much as gold

Romans used Frankincense as a deodorant to hide awful smells. It was used for ceremonial purposes during funerals, to consecrate temples, make cosmetics, and treat illnesses such as gout, ulcers, and "a broken head" (from facts and details about Frankincense).

Present day YEMEN... was a significant location on the Frankincense Trail. Yemeni women ward off evil spirits after the birth of a new baby using Frankincense. They also use it internally as a remedy for nausea. Some people throughout Arabia chew on the resin as it is stated to be "good for the teeth and gums and helps clear the brain."

According to the National Library of Medicine (January 4, 2016), and many other scientific studies found on the web, Frankincense has many wonderful therapeutic properties, including anti-inflammatory, expectorant, antiseptic, anti catarrhal, anticancer, antidepressant, works as an immune stimulant, and sedative. Due to the components of the Boswellia resin, the essential oil can positively affect the emotional balance, immune and nervous system, and the skin.

True, unadulterated, Frankincense has been used by many as a dietary supplement and found to be quite beneficial to our well being... me included.

On an emotional level, Frankincense is said to be "The Oil of Truth, revealing deception and false truths. It invites individuals to let go of lower vibrations, lies, deception, and negativity. It assists individuals in recalling spiritual understanding, gifts, wisdom, and knowledge of the soul brought into the world." (Emotions and Essential Oils; a reference guide). Emotions addressed include: abandonment, spiritually disconnected, father issues, unprotected, and spiritual darkness.

So, food for thought... and for you to do your own research, consider the connection between this gift of the Earth born in the Middle East and how it could assist people with Alzheimers, arthritis, brain fog, concussions, confusion, depression, immune support, infections, inflammation, memory issues, mental fatigue, postpartum, tumors, ulcers, viral infections, and so on...

This tree/ oil is worth more than gold. It was a gift not only to baby Jesus, but to the world. I know it was a great gift for me when I went through a bout with Lyme disease and then a mini stroke. It helped me to see life differently. It truly IS the oil of TRUTH! And as it was stated long ago, "the truth shall set you free".

Until next time, I wish you well, in mind, body, and spirit!

Rev. Gail Lynn
